Mentor Program hosts College Night at Everglades University

For the second year in a row, the ACE Mentor Program of South Florida together with Everglades University hosted the ACE College Night on Wednesday, December 15th, 2010. Ninety ACE students from Miami Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Martin County schools came out to learn more about the degree programs offered in the construction industry. Students were given the opportunity to win a $500 scholarship through a raffle at the event.

The colleges in attendance included the host school, Everglades University (Construction Management), Florida International University (Architecture & Engineering), , Florida Atlantic University (Architecture), University of Florida (Construction Management & Architecture), Miami Dade College (Engineering), Palm Beach State College and Broward College (both provide programs that focus on Architecture, Engineering & Construction Management). In an effort to promote careers in the trades, a representative from the Associated Builders and Contractors Institute was also present.

Current Builders CEO Charles Reid, the founding President of the ACE Mentor Program, facilitated the event. A presentation on BIM (Building Information Modeling) was given by two of Current Builders employees - David Thirlwell, BIM/Virtual Design and Construction Manager and Kar Ho, BIM, Virtual Design and Construction Specialist. The event was attended by Current Builders Assistant Project Manager, Staci Thirlwell, who is an ACE mentor at Plantation High School.
