Mentor Program visits FAU Football Stadium Site

On Saturday, April 9th, 2011, Florida Atlantic University, Balfour Beatty/James A. Cummings, Joint Venture hosted the ACE Mentor Program of South Florida for a once in a lifetime tour of the new football stadium under construction at the Boca Raton campus. Students from Broward and Palm Beach County schools listened to presentations followed by a full tour of the construction site lead by some of the highest skilled staff in the industry. Students learned about the design of the stadium and how BIM (Building Information Modeling) was used through the VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) process. The project team discussed the schedule and procurement of materials as they work towards completion in time for the first home game scheduled October 15th, 2011. Students also saw the different trades working on the structure during their tour.

The event was facilitated by Current Builders CEO Charles Reid, the founding President of the ACE Mentor Program of South Florida and was also attended by three of Current Builders employees, Staci Thirlwell - Assistant Project Manager, David Thirlwell - VDC/BIM Manager and Kar Ho, VDC/BIM Assistant Manager, who are ACE mentors at Plantation High School.
